So impressed. This aged Spanish (Rioja) red wine made me become "deep wine lover."(Tasted 3-4 years ago)
Pale ruby with orange to brick-like color at the edge of the wine. Very complex aroma and bouquet ofdried apricot, dried fig, cigar, tea, and spices. Slightly sweet but elegant fruit flavor, silky and smooth tannins, and soft acidity with very long finish. This wine made in 1978, passed for more than 30 years. However, very surprisingly, it was still so young and elegant.The winary, "Marques de Murrieta", was founded in 1852 in Rioja Alta. The founder,
Luciano Murrieta, was called the "father of modern Rioja wine" and made great effort to improve the quality of Rioja wine.
"Castillo Ygay" is made only in the excellent vintage; in the fact, it had been released only in 1994, 1995, 1998, 2000, 2001, and 2004 after 1978. Some facts of 1978 vintage;
Grape varieties: 75% Tempranillo, 10% Garnacha (Grenache), 12% Mauelo (Carignan), 3% Graciano
Type of casks: 225L American oak barrels
Time in casks: 216 months
Bottling date: Sept. 1998

Wow, the time in casks was 216 months !! 18years !!!
It's a bit expensive (near \20,000) but worth it. I'd truly love to drink this wine again :)
This wine is available at this online shop;
This site has an English page as well (at the bottom of this site, there is an "English" link), but they ship only within Japan.
